Winter Price Outlook: Heating Costs Up by 7.6% this Year

September 19, 2025 by clovejoy

The National Energy Assistance Directors Association (NEADA) predicts that home heating costs this winter are expected to continue rising faster than inflation. This will place millions of families at risk of falling deeper in debt to their utilities and facing power shut-offs when they cannot afford to pay their utility bill.

Prices for home heating this winter on average are estimated to increase by about 7.6% from last year’s winter heating season average of $907 to $976 this winter due to the rising cost of electricity and natural gas. The below charts reflect national averages by fuel. Regional price changes are listed on the following two pages and reflect regional temperature and price projections.
