This morning the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) released $3.36 billion in LIHEAP funding for federal fiscal year (FFY) 2021. These funds will ensure states can help millions of families struggling this fall and winter to pay their energy bills.
The release represents 90 percent of the estimated FFY2021 appropriation, assuming flat funding from FFY2020. In years such as this when Congress is unable to pass a full-year appropriations bill, HHS releases 90 percent of the previous year LIHEAP appropriation in the fall. The federal government is currently funded through December 11.
