Members of Congress submitted a letter to the Chair and Ranking Member of the House Appropriations Committee, Subcommittee on Labor, Health and Human Services, Education, and Related Agencies calling for no less than $4.7 billion in LIHEAP funding for fiscal year (FY) 2017. The letter, dated March 24, 2016, was signed by 161 Members of Congress, including 140 Democrats and 21 Republicans. This is 15 more signatories than last year.
This letter comes as the House Appropriations Committee is determining FY 17 funding for federal programs and demonstrates strong support in the U.S. House of Representatives for LIHEAP. The letter was circulated for signature by a coalition of LIHEAP supporters, including by LIHEAP advocates that visited the offices of their Members of Congress during the National Energy & Utility Affordability Coalition’s LIHEAP Action Day in early March.
