Forty-one members of the U.S. House of Representatives today sent a letter to Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Xavier Becerra requesting the release 90% of federal fiscal year (FFY) 2022 funds for the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program, based on the FFY 2021 appropriation.
The federal government is currently funded through December 3, 2021 thanks to a continuing resolution (CR). The CR provides funding based on FY 2021 appropriation levels. In previous years in which a temporary funding bill has been necessary, HHS released 90 percent of the anticipated full year LIHEAP appropriation so that states can provide assistance to low-income families throughout the winter heating season.
NEADA sent a letter making the same request to Secretary Becerra earlier this month.
