Local Events & Partnerships
The best way to get the word out about National Energy Assistance Day is to work with your local community groups. Think about where your target populations gather, and find local organizations that can help you reach those populations.
In-Person Events
- Hosting a local sign-up event can be a great way to get people enrolled in the program. Consider partnering with local schools, religious groups, veterans groups, libraries, supermarkets, or other places where people in your community gather. Ask if you can set up a table in the entry way to reach people going in and out, and hand out flyers with application instructions.
- Organize a sign-up fair in partnership with a local food bank, retirement center, school aftercare program, or other venue where intake staff can be on hand to help people fill out applications on the spot.
Virtual Events
- Newsletters/Bulletins: Many local groups send out regular newsletters or bulletins to their members. Ask them to include information about National Energy Assistance Day and local energy assistance contacts in the weeks leading up to the event.
- Websites: Ask local community groups to post about National Energy Assistance Day on their website. Provide them with links to local intake offices.
- Host a virtual live Q&A or interview with intake staff to teach people more about the program. Include information such as application requirements and deadlines, required documentation, and other common questions.
