On May 25, a bipartisan group of 43 Senators sent a letter to Senators Patty Murray, Chair, and Roy Blunt, Ranking Member of the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Labor, Health and Human Services and Related Agencies requesting “the highest level of funding possible” for LIHEAP in fiscal year 2023.
The letter highlights the importance of LIHEAP to help struggling families pay for the cost of energy, which is at its highest price in almost a decade. It also uses NEADA data on the purchasing power of LIHEAP to make the case for robust funding. The letter was led by Senators Jack Reed (D-RI) and Susan Collins (R-ME), two longstanding LIHEAP champions.
