President’s FY 2014 Budget Calls for Deep Cuts in LIHEAP and CSBG

The Administration’s released its FY 2014 Budget today. It calls for deep cuts to LIHEAP and CSBG. For LIHEAP, the budget would cut the appropriation from $3.47 billion (prior to the sequester) to $2.97 billion. Congress Passes Full-Year Continuing Resoultion

Congress today adverted a full scale shut-down of government services today by passing a full year continuing resolution. Hopefully, HHS will now move forward on providing a final allocation of the remaining funds (about $200 million) after the impact of the seqester.

Winter Fuels Price Outlook: Prices Projected to Increase by 11.1%

The EIA October Winter Fuel Outlook projected that the cost of home heating would increase by 11.1% as a result of colder winter conditions. The average LIHEAP grant is projected to 38% of the cost of home heating, down from 46% in FY 2012. See Attached is the updated price table. Mark Wolfe/NEADA
